Hi Nigel many thanks for the response - yes we see that the results are changing every second. The snap shots we take are only once a day.

It's interesting to hear you identify the heavy traffic periods. We'd love to look more into that.

Cheers

I experience changes quite frequently during periods of high volumes of searches, so for example, during the Christmas period the retail phrases which I work on will shift each day, sometimes a few times per day.

However, during the summer when traffic/demand is low the serps stay fairly stable! This article is still number one for the phrase 'how often do..'

I experience changes in SERPs every day.
One day, one of my articles gets 380 Google visits, on the other 150.
Another article drops from 120 to 30.
I don't know how it is calculated but the total average visits to all of my 80 articles is always the same, no matter how many visits per each article.
something like a give and take..

UDATE:

12 hours after posting it has dropped down more than a page or two. -

The older posts it originally usurped are now taking their position back at the top.

I've noticed this effect too - an article shoots straight to the top just after publishing and then gradually slides down.

This one still ranks top for "How often does Google change its SERPs" though..
